  • ENS is the domain name system for the Ethereum blockchain.
  • .eth domains are stored on the ENS system.
  • .eth domains are one of many types of web3 domains.
  • You can link a .eth domain to act represent your Ethereum account and act as your cross-platform web3 username.

  • Balance of eth in your wallet (for transaction costs), $50 USD equivalent is a good amount to start

What are Ethereum Name Service .ETH Domains?

Ethereum .eth domains are Web3 domains that are looking to become part of advancing the internet. These domains are Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTS) that are built on top of the Ethereum network and can connect directly to a user’s Metamask or hardware wallet (e.g. a Ledger).

The evolution of the web:

Web1 – Read-only web, static pages
Web2 – Read-write web, dynamic pages, images, videos, music, social media
Web3 – Decentralised web, blockchains, cryptocurrencies, NFTs and metaverses 1

What’s the Benefit of them?

.Eth domain names are censorship resistant, meaning that a 3rd party cannot take the domain offline. By connecting directly to your wallet from your website, you can communicate with the Ethereum blockchain to send and receive funds. No bank or middleman is involved. Your .eth name can be also directly linked to any eth address.

The following steps explain how to first mint (buy eth domains):

  5. Metamask should pop up. Check the transaction carefully again and click ‘Confirm’. The transaction should be pending and will shortly tell you once it’s successful.
